Answer #1

i) profit is Maximizing at MR=MC,

MR=240-2q,

MC=4q

240-2q=4q

240=6q

Q=40

P=240-40=200

ii)profit function=TR - TC=240q-q2 - 2q2=-3q2+240q

•86

iii)-3q2+240q=3600

-3q2+240q-3600=0

-q2+80q-1200=0

-q2+60q+20q-1200=0

-q(q-60)+20(q-60)=0

(q-60)(20-q)=0

q-60=0. 20-q=0

q=60. q=20

60>40>20,

So monopolist would produce output equal to 60 ,

P=240-60=180

Misool 400 60

iv) the shareholders will be benefited as firm profit Increases ,so he will set minimum profit constraint equal to profit at profit Maximizing output and that is,

Profit =40*200-2*40*40=8,000-3200=4800
