These are a few articles that talk about death and dying in Native American and American cultures

The main difference between the perspective on death and dying in Native American and American cultures is that Native Americans view death and disease as a central part of life. Death puts an end to the physical aspects of life but the spiritual aspects remain eternal. A person close to his death is believed to have acquired knowledge of the other (spiritual) dimension.

Answer: The traditional belief was that the principles of end of life care were in contradiction to the traditions of the Native Americans. However, no community is static. The belief system in the Native American community has changed over time. The Spirit Of Eagles survey (questionnaire-based) challenged this view. The survey revealed that the community considered pain relief, hospice care and care for dying important.
