Introduction:

Erick Erickson was an ego psychologist who developed one of the most popular and influential theories of development. While his theory was impacted by psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud's work,Erickson theory centered on psychosocial rather than psychosexual development.

Definition of personality:

Personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking,feeling and behaving.The study of personality focuses on two broad areas:One is understanding individual differences in particular personality characteristics,such as sociability or irritability.

Explain Erick Erickson theory of personality development:

Erick Erickson's theory of psychosocial development is one of the best-known theories of personality in psychology.Much like Sigmund Freud,Erikson believed that personality develops in a series of stages.one of the main element of Erikson's psychosocial stage theory is the development of ego identity..

Uses of Erick Erickson theory of personality development theory:

2 Autonomy vs Shame/Doubt

Toddlers learn to exercise will and do things for themselves,or they doubt their abilities.

Preschoolers learn to initiate tasks and carry out plans, or they feel guilty about efforts to be independent.

4 Industry vs Inferiority Children learn the pleasure of applying themselves to tasks,or they feel inferior.
5 Identity vs Confusion Teenagers work at refining a sense of self by testing roles and then integrating them to form a single identity, or they become confused about who they are.
6 Intimacy vs Isolation Young adults struggle to form close relationships and to gain the capacity for intimate love, or they feel socially isolated.
7 Generativity vs Stagnation The middle-aged discover a sense of contributing to the world,usually through family and work, or they may feel a lack of purpose.
8 Integrity vs Despair When reflecting on his or her life, the older adult may feel a sense of satisfaction or failure.

Conclusion:

Erickson's psychosocial theory basically asserts that people experience eight psychosocial crisis stages which significantly affect each person's development and personality.

He say that the development is determined by the interaction of the body, mind and cultural influences and he organized life into eight stages that extend from birth to death.
