Metabolic acidosis is a condition in which decreased pH, increased H+, decreased HCO3, decreased pCO3.

In compensation Pco2 is decreased. 0.6 -0.75 mm Hg increase in Pco2 for every I mEq/L increase in HCO3. Pco2 should not rise above 55 mmHg in compensation. It can be achieved by increased ventilation, renal excretion of H ions. K exchange with H+ in ECF (H+ into cells, K+ out of cells )
