Disability

Disability is an inability to execute some movements, or pick up sensory information, or perform some cognitive function. A disability may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental or some combination of these.For example, if a person has a disability that prevents them from being able to move their legs. A disability may be present from birth, or occur during a person's lifetime.

Handicap

Any physical or mental defect, congenital or acquired, preventing or restricting a person from participating in normal life or limiting their capacity to work. It is an inability to accomplish something one might want to do, that most others around one are able to accomplish. For example, reading, walking, catching a ball, or communicating.

Factors contribute to homelessness

1. Low-income housing shortage/poverty

2. Changing economic trends and inadequate income supports

3. Mental illness and the lack of needed services

Principles of caring person with disability

  • Treat irrespective of age, gender.reace, religion etc
  • dont hurt them with verbal or any other way of behaviour
  • listen their problems
  • involve their family members in all aspect of care
  • provide necessary explanation for all procedures.
  • informed consent
  • prevent injury such as physical or emotional or both
