Robert Walker, a 62-year-old homeless man with severe spinal arthritis, is your newest admission to the orthopedic unit where you practice nursing. Mr. Walker is not a stranger to your unit and seems to enjoy regaling staff regarding his adventurous exploits as a younger man. Currently, his nutrition is questionable, he is quite hygienically challenged, and he was admitted for treatment of several pressure ulcers (of varying stages) on the majority of his posterior pressure points, due to his extremely limited mobility.

  1. Identify the stages and appropriate nursing measures for pressure ulcers (Include each stage – be specific).
  2. Outline strategies to promote healing of Mr. Walker’s current pressure ulcers and potential strategies to prevent future ulcer development (Include dietary and hygiene interventions – be specific!).
