Answer #1

Answer: Drug interaction is the reaction between the drug to drug or drug to the food which may results in increased or decreased efficacy of the drug. It may also cause side effects.

There are two types of drug interactions:

  • Drug - drug interactions: In this kind of interaction when two drugs are taken together, they may interfere in the effectiveness of each other which may results into increased or decreased bioavailability or affect. For example:  Digoxin and Quinidine if taken together it may give rise to conditions such as serious nausea and vomiting which can be fatal.
  • Drug - food interactions: This interaction takes place netbetw the medicine and the food we eat. Sometimes most of the food increases the absorption of the drug whereas many food interacts with medicine and form complex that becomes ineffective. For example, Calcium tablet should not be taken along with the milk as it forms complex and shows no effect.
