Give the purpose, nursing responsibilities, and client education for the following Cardiovascular diagnostic tests. (TEE, MUGA scan, CABG, Stress Test)?

Ans:- TEE( transesophageal echocardiogram) :- TEE is nothing but a kind of Echo that includes a USG pipe that goes through our esophagus to provide a clear cut picture of our heart functions :-for example the thickness of walls, function of valves, pericardial diseases, any kind of tumor in heart, pumping efficiency of heart.

Nursing responsibility :- the main nursing responsibility in this test is :-

to keep the patient NPO 8-10hrs .

Apply topical anesthesia to inhibit gag reflex

Check all the vitals during before and after the procedure of the patient mainly BP,HR, oxygenation.

Client education :- not to have anything by mouth before 8-10 hrs of the procedure

Ask the patient if he is allergic to any kind of dyes or any medicine .

Tell the patient not to drive until the effect of anesthesia wears off.

The risk of side effects of this test are very rare but if the patient fell the side effects then tell the patient to contact the physician as soon as possible

MUGA scan:- multigated acquisition scan or radionuclid arteriography is also known as MUGA scan this is a test in which a radionuclid substance is introduced in our body and and a special kind of camera is used that takes the picture of our heart when it beats to calculate the ejection fraction normally that is considered as 50-75

Nursing responsibility And client education :-

Keep the patient NPO

Ask for allergies to sea food or any medicine

No sedation is needed for this scan so client can go on his routine after the test

But a plenty of water is adviced after this test .Because the substance may take 24 hours to get out of our body through the kidney

The test can be done either in resting condition or in exercise

CABG test:-coronary artery bypass grafting is a technique that is mainly used in CHD patient to improve the blood circulation of heart.

CHD is a condition in which the arteries become narrow and the blood supply is occluded by the plaque that can be of fat or calcium or due to any previous scar.

Nursing responsibility :-

In CABG a healthy artery or vein is connected to that affected part

Before CABG perform all the blood investigation

Keep the patient NPO

After CABG procedure check the vitals every hour check for drain check the patient for shock condition check the pulses from the area from where the part of story was taken.

Educate the patient for proper spirometry and steam inhalation after extubation .
