Cardiovascular drugs and respiratory drugs need special consideration when we use this medication..Need special consideration needed before, after and during medication to assess any adverse effects..It must be given in special standing order,name,dosage, timings etc..Early identification of patients who are at risk for the development of adverse effect need dose adjustment to prevent side effects..When there is multiple drug regimen there is increased risk and more prone for drug interactions..Proper informed approach to drug interactions,rationale and drug knowledge can improve patient outcomes..
Cardiovascular and respiratory drugs has therapeutic drug effects when it reaches to its target concentration in the blood stream..To ensure safe and effective action of drugs the concentration in the blood stream and clinical effects are monitored and according to that dose and medication can be changed for best outcomes..
When patient is taking cardio and respiratory medication at home patient and family education is must to avoid negligence and prevent complication..
-Advice patient to check their blood pressure daily once..
-Advice patient to take medication at correct timing with out missing the dose..
-Advice them to notify the physician if there is any unusual symptoms.
-advice them to take adequate rest after medication..
In case patient is there at hospital when they are on cardiac and respiratory medications need more considerations for any adverse effects..
- Monitor patient heart thythm and rate
-monitor patient respiratory pattern for dyspnea,swallow or rapid breath.
- Check patient name,age,bed number and doctors order and follow the medication.
- Special precautions needed for patients if they contraindicated for that particular medication..
- Keep all life saving drugs,defibrillator,oxygen supply near to the patient..
-Check patient old drug regimen to avoid overdose.
- Proper position should be maintained.
- connect the patient with continuous cardiac monitoring..
-When patient is on those medications renal function and electrolyte balance should be checked for any impairment..
- check patient neurological status for confusion,drowsiness and blurred vision etc..
- maintain proper position to avoid discomfort.
- check patient nutrition status and fluid balance while taking medications..
-Check any side effects like unusual bleeding and tachycardia, bradycardia etc..
-Check patient ECG when there is rhythm changes..
-Special consideration needed for elderly and pediatric patients..
