Cardiovascular drugs and respiratory drugs need special
consideration when we use this medication..Need special
consideration needed before, after and during medication to assess
any adverse effects..It must be given in special standing
order, name, dosage, timings etc..Early identification of patients
who are at risk for the development of adverse effect need dose
adjustment to prevent side effects..When there is multiple drug
regimen there is increased risk and more prone for drug
interactions..Proper informed approach to drug
interactions, rationale and drug knowledge can improve patient
outcomes..
Cardiovascular and respiratory drugs has therapeutic drug effects
when it reaches to its target concentration in the blood stream..To
ensure safe and effective action of drugs the concentration in the
blood stream and clinical effects are monitored and according to
that dose and medication can be changed for best outcomes..
When patient is taking cardio and respiratory medication at home
patient and family education is must to avoid negligence and
prevent complication..
-Advice patient to check their blood pressure daily once..
-Advice patient to take medication at correct timing with out
missing the dose..
-Advice them to notify the physician if there is any unusual
symptoms.
-advice them to take adequate rest after medication..
In case patient is there at hospital when they are on cardiac and
respiratory medications need more considerations for any adverse
effects..
- Monitor patient heart thythm and rate
-monitor patient respiratory pattern for dyspnea, swallow or rapid
breath.
- Check patient name, age, bed number and doctors order and follow
the medication.
- Special precautions needed for patients if they contraindicated
for that particular medication..
- Keep all life saving drugs, defibrillator, oxygen supply near to
the patient..
-Check patient old drug regimen to avoid overdose.
- Proper position should be maintained.
- connect the patient with continuous cardiac monitoring..
-When patient is on those medications renal function and
electrolyte balance should be checked for any impairment..
- check patient neurological status for confusion, drowsiness and
blurred vision etc..
- maintain proper position to avoid discomfort.
- check patient nutrition status and fluid balance while taking
medications..
-Check any side effects like unusual bleeding and tachycardia,
bradycardia etc..
-Check patient ECG when there is rhythm changes..
-Special consideration needed for elderly and pediatric
patients..
