1. Cardiac glycosides : digoxin, digitoxin.

2. Sympathetic drugs : adrenalin , dopamin, isoprenalin.

3. Anticholinergic drugs : atropine , scopolamine .4. Xanthines : theophylline , theobromine .

.antihypertensive drugs :

1.Diuretics

2.Sypathoplegic blockers : alphaor beta receptors , nerve terminals , ganglia ,cns sympathetic outflow

3. Vasodilators : older oral vasodilators ,calcium blockers

4. Angiotensin antagonists : ACE inhibitors , receptor blockers .

Diuretics :

1. Hydrocholothiazide :

Dose : 12.5 to 50 mg once daily

Side effects : anaphylaxis , anorexia ,confusion ,disorders of haematopoitic structure ,dizziness ,epigastric distress.

Contraindications : hypersensitivity.

Frusemide :

Dose : 20 to 80 mg PO divided q 12 Hr.

Side effects : hyperuricemia , hypokalemia, anaphylaxis ,anaemia ,anorexia ,diarrhea ,dizziness ,glucose intolerence .

Contraindications : renal failure .

ACE inhibitors :

Enalapril :

Dose : 2.5 to 40 mg Po daily

Side effects : dizziness , hypotension, headache , drycough ,rash .

Contraindications : history of ACE inhibitor induced angioedema .

Vasodilators :

Hydralazine :

Route : IV, PO , IM .

Side effects : headache , nausea , diarrhea , hypotension, palpitation ,tachycardia ,angina ,edema

angiotensin 2receptor antagonists :

Losartan :

Dose : 25 to 100 mg

Route : PO or 2 daily doses .

Side effects : fatiguev, hypoglycemia , hypotension, hyperkalemia , anaemia , chest pain, weakness

Contraindications :

Pregnancy , fetal exposure ,hypotension, renal failure,skull hypoplasia ,death.

Digitalis :

Oral route : 0.125-0.5 mg

IV route : 0.25 mg.

Indications : CHF , atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter , PST , LVF.

Contraindications : digitalis toxicity, recent myocardial infarction, arrhythmias , renal impairement , hepatic failure , electrolyte imbalance specially hypokalaemia .

Special considerations : pregnancy , lactation, children older adults .

Nurses responsibilities : nurses should follow all rights of drug administration.

Early detection of adverse events

Prompt treatment .
