Hepatic portal system : Blood from the intestines carried to the liver. The unabsorbed nutrients from the intestines gets absorbed and stored in the liver. Portal triad constitutes hepatic artery, portal vein and hepatic duct. Portal veins carries blood from the gastrointestinal tract and spleen to the liver for the absorption of nutrients and gets stored. Hepatic portal circulation accomplishes portal circulation in the liver before reaching systemic circulation to the heart.
