Regarding a medical assistants right to refuse in participating a treatment programe is still under debate. It's a contradiction between health care worker's personal belief and conscience and a patient's rights. The medical assistant can either agree or refuse to assist a treatment but it depends on the policy of hospital or with prior information to the employers.

According to me , even he has his own rationalization , the behaviour he did cannot be justified because by doing so he is breaching his professional duty to put the patient first.

He might have refused to assist the procedure because of the concept he has about Fabian couples. Usually they support eugenism and the medical assistant may be personally against it. However he need to know that these legal, ethical and ideological battles will alter professional relationships and change career arcs.

Also there can be various complications or ramifications due to his behaviour . It depends on the hospital policy and also the patient is not availed with proper treatment and support as he denied to assist them. If he has already informed the employer about the treatments which he cannot assist , they would have made arrangement to place someone else. So it's again increasing the workload of the colleagues by placing them in an immediate requirement.
