As a medical assistant for a urologist, you note that the provider often charts “urinary tract infection” when the laboratory results clearly identify gonorrhea. Your instructions are to notify the county health department only when a sexually transmitted disease is diagnosed and charted.

The main problem here is the concealing of truth. This is a form of medical malpractice by not mentioning the correct diagnosis. It is the duty of the provider to mention the sexually transmitted diseases in the record as it is an infectious disease.

It is a must to send a report to the County health department and notify them to alert them .If it is not done this may lead to spread of the infectious disease and thus increase the morbidity rate of the disease.
