Continuing education is the education provided for adults after they have left the formal education system, consisting typically of short or part-time courses.

Advanced practice nurse is a registered nurse with post-graduation in nursing and should have adequate clinical education , knowledge , skills and scope of nursing . They are offering new ways of providing cost-effective care and more accessibility to qualified practitioners for patients and their families. They must be grounded in theory, practice and research as guides to their clinical practice.

To become an advanced practice nurse, first-time candidates must have three years of RN experience; at least a master's degree on nurse practitioner program in any speciality ; and a minimum of 2,500 hours of advanced practice work over the previous three years as an nurse practitioner.

Therefore to become a skillful advanced practice nurse, continuing education is required . It helps to update their knowledge and skill continuously . For that purpose , a nurse should enroll herself for various continuing education programmes.

Nursing is a profession which requires a commitment to stay updated on developing skills and knowledge. The types of continuing education required will vary depending on the level and type of nursing .

Nursing profession is demanding for practitioners who are skilled at what they do and committed to maintain quality care. All states require continuing education for registered nurses and advance practice nurse but the requirements vary from state to state. Each state board of nursing requires a particular hours of CE in a given timeframe to keep the licence current.

Many advanced practice nurses (APRNs) who hold graduate degrees in nursing and also certifications that they need to keep updated. So continuing education truly applies to all dimensions of nursing, because there is always more to learn, regardless the level of nursing career one holds.
