20.1Before reconstituting injectable drugs read and follow the label or package insert directions carefully.Check the drug and diluent expiration dates.Most commonly used diluents in parenteral medications are sterile water and 0.9% sodium chloride.Sterile water for injection USP has no antimicrobial agents can be used in parenteral solutions.

• Follow routine handwash.
• Check patients documentation status and medication chart.
• Identifies patient with medical order and hospital identification armband.
• Organize the equipment and cleans injection port of Burette using alcohol swab.
• Carefully insert injection device through cent r e of injection port of the IV flask.
• Mix the solution by holding the flask and turning it gently from end to end .
• Assess the iv site and patency of the cannula and stabilises IV line to patients arm with tape.
• Commence infusion at prescribed rate .
