There are two types of Coombs test used for the evaluation of hemolysis. The DAT means the direct antiglobulin test while IAT means the indirect antiglobulin test.

DAT test is not recommended on a patient who received a unit of RBC's 1 day ago as the patient can develop alloimmunization for the antigen of the transfused cells of that person whose blood he/she had received and it means the agglutination is not present onto the surface of the the erythrocytes of the recipient's/ patient. Hence it is not desirable and effective one.
