- Involves the detection of annihilation gamma photons from a positron emitting radionuclide.

Principle of PET

- Detecting gamma rays and building a three-dimensional picture.

Annihilation coincidence detection (ACD):

As it is unique to PET, two detection events take place at nearly the same time, assumed to have resulted from a single annihilation even along a line connecting the two detectors, meaning the decay event is localized without the need for a collimator.
