The uterus is supported on all sides by simple columnar epithelial tissue. During hysterectomy these structures must be divided to mobilize the uterus . Heavy retraction clamps are used to grasp the tissue in this part of the surgery . However unlike uterus the fallopian tubes are lined with ciliated simple coloumar epithelium. In order to prevent injury to the tubes self retracting and retaining clamps are used to manipulate them .
