BRCA 1 (BReast CAncer 1) and BRCA 2 (BReast CAncer 2) is a gene found in all women.Rather its main role is to prevent getting breast cancer by inhibiting the the abnormal DNA synthesis and cancer cell growth.

A positive BRCA1 indicates the women is at risk of getting breast cancer or ovarian cancer. All women who test positive for this may not develop cancer. Most of the cases are detected before 70 years and effective treatment are available. Most of them opt for preventive surgery like mastectomy (double mastectomy ) ,or Oopherectomy.

They directly have an effect on the health in the following way

  • Exercise tends to decrease depression and gives a good feel and strength
  • Physical activity, nutrition, weight management can reduce the incidence of breast cancer
  • overtime if the individual is getting the cancer the nutritional patterns will be altered leading to anorexia and weight loss
