Case Study: Fatigue with a Vitamin-Poor Diet

Samuel is a 63-year-old single man who works full time in a food processing plant. He has a history of alcohol abuse and esophageal cancer, which was treated successfully with anti-cancer drugs and surgery four years ago. His weight had been stable at 135 pounds until the past 6 months, in which he has experienced an involuntary weight loss of 10 pounds. He is 67 inches tall and his current BMI is 19.5. He complains of a poor appetite and being overly weak and tired. He also complains of cracks at the corners of his mount and a chronic sore throat which concerns him, given his cancer history. His usual diet is fairly consistent. He states that he rarely eats breakfast because he starts work at 6 a.m. He eats two deli meat sandwiches, “usually pastrami or salami,” and a soda at 10 a.m., and may eat a candy bar in the afternoon when he gets off work. He often prepares frozen dinners or pizza at home in the evening and routinely drinks “about 4 or 5 beers” before going to bed. Occasionally he will cook a roast and mashed potatoes. He occasionally will have milk with cereal but rarely eats vegetables or fruit. He would like to know which vitamin supplement will give him energy.

Would you recommend that Samuel take a vitamin and mineral supplement? Why or why not?

--There are many natural vitamins and supplements that will help to boost our body energy.

such as:

1) CoQ10:- CoQ10 means coenzyme Q10.It is made automatically and naturally in our body.It is one of the nutrient which is required for our body cells to produce energy.If there is a low level of CoQ10, then the statin treatment are needed to be taken .And which also make a feeling of fatigue.So the CoQ10 supplements can help to correct these problems.

2) RHODIOLA ROSEA:- The Rhodiola Rosea is a plant which can be seen in the mountain regions and also in the cold climate.It can develop our body capacity for adapting the stress and decrease fatigue.It also helps to eradicate the fatigue in the people with depression.

3) VITAMIN B12:- It can be seen in the animal proteins like fish and meet ,it helps in the energy production in a large scale. Refusing to include these kind of animal products can cause aging.The low level of vitamin B12 can make the disease which affects the G1 tract and which leads to fatigue.

4) CREATINE:- The creatine is normally found in the pork,poultry,fish and meet.when your body need a sudden energy then the creatine lends their Phosphate to ADP and which becomes ATP.So by this way this gives the energy to us which is needed for short time exercise and high intensity.

5) MELATONIN:- It is a hormone which helps in sleeping.The melatonin supplements helps to reduce insomnia by lowering the fatigue and improving alertness.

6) TYROSINE:- It is mostly found in the protein foods like eggs ,chicken and dairy products and which is an amino acid that will be naturally produced by our body.This restores the level of neurotransmitters in our body and increase the energy level.

7) CITRULLINE:- It is the latin word for Watermelon. The Citrulline make nitric acid in our body, that dilate the blood vessels and help for the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to our body cells.This helps to decrease the fatigue.

8) IRON:- We get the iron through our diet, through seafoods and meet.The Red blood cells need iron for transporting oxygen to our body tissues.If there is no iron then the oxygen delivery to our body will be limited, which can make fatigue.The increased blood loss and pregnancy need large amount of iron.

>> In this case the Samual's diet is not correct and it do not meet the vitamin and mineral needs.So he need to include the above mentioned vitamins in his daily diet for avoiding his fatigue problems.
