Answer: Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that causes increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes as well as stroke. In the metabolic syndrome, these abnormalities occurs altogether such as hypertension, increased blood sugar level, increased weight etc.

The diagnosis is made through examination such as:

• Increased weight
• Triglycerides level
• Increased blood pressure which is constant
• Increased blood sugar level.

The symptoms that confirms John has metabolic syndrome are:

• Pear shaped body( fat on belly)
• Hypertension
• High blood glucose levels
• Triglycerides levels are high.

The patient should avoid caffeinated beverages, smoking, alcohol consumption. Patient should also avoid fast food specially starchy foods. Eating green vegetable which are rich in antioxidant, vitamins can lower the risk of the disease.
