Baby boomers are the fastest growing age group in the U.S.A. Currently, 14.5% of the nation’s population is age 65+. America's elderly population is now growing at a moderate pace. The U.S. population 65 and older is now the largest in terms of size. But one of the main facts is that Adults age 65+ are now twice as likely to be living in poverty as they were a decade ago. Women have a higher poverty rate than men. One in five Virginians will be 65 years or older with the over 85 age group being the fastest growing segment of the population. Of those age 85+, women will be disproportionately represented. For 3 out of 10 retired seniors, Social Security provides more than 90% of their total income, with an average benefit of $1,257 per month. Social Security payments alone are inadequate to lift and maintain seniors out of poverty.

As the population ages, there is increasing concern about accident-related injuries to the elderly. An article reported on an experiment in which the maximum lean angle—the farthest a subject is able to lean and still recover in one step—was determined for both a sample of younger females (21–29 years) and a sample of older females (67–81 years). The following observations are consistent with summary data given in the article: YF:29,34,31,27,28,32,31,35,32,27 OF:19,15,23,13,12 Does the data suggest that true average maximum lean...
