Health policy - The planning, development, and implementation of interventions designed to maintain and improve the health of a group of individuals.

DIFFERENT FORMS OF HEALTH POLICIES

1.We have public social policies enacted by the government.

2.We have health policies that affect all levels of health care including policies affecting the production, provision, and financing of health care services.

3.We have health policies that affect groups or classes of individuals, such as physicians, the poor, elderly and children.

4.We have health policies that affect Types of organizations, such as medical schools, HMOs, nursing homes, medical technology producers and employers

# Two main types of health policies:

1. Distributive

2. Redistributive

Distributive

spread benefits throughout society

Redistributive

Take money or power from one group and gives it to another.

Ex. Medicaid - take state taxes that we paid and spend it on the poor

# Special Risk Policy

will cover unusual types of risks that are not normally covered under AD&D.

-covers only the specific hazard or risk identified in policy, such as a racecar driver test-driving a new car.

# Limited Risk Policy

defines the specific risk in which accidental death or dismemberment benefits will be paid

# Long-term Care policies

provide coverage for individuals who are no longer able to live an independent lifestyle and require living assistance at home or in a nursing home.

-provide coverage for at least 12 months in setting other than hospital
