Pandemic disease

Pandemic disease is a disease that hits a wide geographical area and affects a large proportion of the population. It is a world wide spread of a new disease.

Epidemic disease

An occurance of a disease or disorder in a population at a frequency , higher than that expected in a given time period, is called epidemic disease.

Ebola virus disease/ Ebola

It is a viral haemorrhagic fever caused by Ebola virus. The main symptoms are severe bleeding, organ failures eventually death.

History

Ebola virus disease first reported in 1976 , simultaneously in two countries of African sub continent; South Sudan and Democratic republic of the Congo. The place that this disease identified is in a village, near by a river called Ebola, thats why the name ' Ebola virus disease'. Ebola infections occur intermittently in tropic countries of Africa and it kills 25- 90% of infected persons. From 2013- 2016 , there were 28, 616 cases and 11, 310 deaths.

Time frame to be reported: The incubation period ( time between entry of microorganism to the apperance of symptoms.) Of Ebola is 2- 21. Immediately or early identification of signs and symptoms and notification to governmental authority is must.

Treatment recommendation

For Ebola , there is no specific treatment. Symptomatic treatment is advisable for Ebola such as rehydration therapy ( oral or IV),  pain management ( Analgesics other than aspirin and ibuprofen, that increases the risk of bleeding), treatment for GI disturbances and anxiety. Transfusion of blood products eg: Fresh frozen plasma, platelets . heparin infusion is also help an Ebola patient.

World health organization( wHO)

Ebola virus infection is uploaded on the WHO. It is listed under the 20; most occuring endemic, pandemic disease. WHO initiated many public health interventions such as training and learning to care for the patient, promoted global vaccine availability.
