Answer #1

Reproductive dysfunction secondary to radiation snd chemotherapy varies according to the radiation treatment field and dosage and the particular chemotherapy agent and dose as well as host factors. The patient and her or his partner requires information about the expected effects of treatment relative to reproductive and sexual issues. Potential infertility can be a significant consequence for the individual and counseling maybe indicated. The nurse needs to encourage discussion of issues related to sexuality, offer specific suggestions, and make refereals for ongoing counseling when indicated.
