Please help me to explain Why is this information needed? Explain a high or low result and explain how the results relate to your patient.
Include pathology, diet and medications in this explanation.
Complete Blood count is used as a screening or a prognostic and a tool for follow up of patients.
WBC- It involves in the immunity response. Hence, if there is any risk of infection, WBC count increases to fight against it.
RBC- It carries oxygen from the lungs and to the tissues in the body. Reduction in count indicates anemia, kidney problems, nutritional or bone marrow deficiencies whereas increase in count indicates pulmonary disorders, smoking, dehydration
MPV- It is the count of average sized platelets found in blood. High MPV is the large sized platelets found in some types of cancer. It means the platelets were produced in larger quantities and size by the bone marrow.
CHLORIDE-An increase in chloride indicates dehydration, kidney disease or cushing syndrome whereas low chloride caused by any sodium disorders in body
CO2-Chest injury or respiratory failure may cause problems with gas exchange and resulting in high CO2 levels in blood
HGB-pulmonary or cardiac disorders have been related with high hemoglobin levels. Heme is a protein in RBC which carries oxygen throughout the body
HCT- It is the percentage of RBC in blood. As mentioned earlier high indicates pulmonary disorders, smoking, dehydration and lower count indicates anemia, kidney problems, nutritional or bone marrow deficiencies.
