Answer #1

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is the leading stock exchange in India.

NSE launched electronic screen-based trading in 1994, derivatives trading (in the form of index futures) and internet trading in 2000, which were each the first of its kind in India.

The market capitalization is Rs.1,45,52,074 crores (as at end of February 2020).

The derivatives turnover was Rs.34,42,56,975.09 crores in 2019-20.

Its main index is the Nifty 50, a value-weighted index of 50 stocks from 13 sectors. It was launched as co-branded index with Standard and Poor's, and was called CNX Nifty until 2013. Now, it is one of the world's most actively traded contracts.

The base period selected for NIFTY 50 index is the close of prices on November 3, 1995, which marks the completion of one year of operations of NSE's Capital Market Segment. The base value of the index has been set at 1000 and a base capital of Rs.2.06 trillion.

The NIFTY 50 Index represents about 66.8% of the free float market capitalization of the stocks listed on NSE as on March 29, 2019.

The total traded value of NIFTY 50 index constituents for the last six months ending March 2019 is approximately 53.4% of the traded value of all stocks on the NSE.
