The role of nurse is not only institutional care but also involves promotion of health and prevention of diseases in public. The GREENHOUSE GAS (mainly carbon dioxide and methane) have 3 negative impacts on our environment. a) They absorbs infrared radiation b) trap heat in the atmosphere and c) contributes to climate change. The major health risks due to greenhouse gas effect are a)air pollution and b) heat waves.
Global warming is a major public health hazard. Globally, due to excessive rain, scarcity of water is the next major concern. If water shortage increases illness among the public also increases. As the climate change occur, more and more people would die due to water and food borne diseases. Among diarrhea would be more common. Moreover, some illnesses carried by insects like West Nile and Lyme diseases, thrive in warm temperatures.
In addition to this, bad quality air, especially in polluted cities is the major concern. It leads to respiratory problems due to lots of fine particles in the air. So, it is the responsibility of a nurse to make aware of the public as soon as the problems get worse.
RECYCLING is important to create a good environment and also to live in today's world. Utilization of old products which are of no use and then converting them to a new product than throwing away helps to prevent from air and water pollution. It also important to reduce global warming.
Both greenhouse effect and throwing away all the garbage in house increase global warming and air pollution. So, it is the responsibility of the nurse to take an immediate action against global warming. They can educate and make aware of the public about the negative impact of global warming before it creates a life-threatening situation.
