b. Can lead to physically slower behaviour in older adulthood
There are many views and opinions that stereotype the process of ageing. It is both positive and negative. The negative view towards ageing makes people worry that old age is associated with lowered physical activity, decreased efficiency of the body, increased risk of diseases and slower recovery with lasting complications. On the other hand positive view makes people see ageing as a natural process with accumulation of knowledge, wisdom, experience and maturity in thoughts and beliefs.
The people with negative perspective tend to have negative effects on their health like slowing of physical activity, increases susceptibility to infections, increases hospital visits and diseases. They tend to get over cautions and limit physical and mental activity. The negative view on ageing manifests clinically in these people.
The people with positive perspective have positive effects of ageing like increased memory and tend to be more careful. They show increased memory as the try to remember by repetition and practise so that they won’t forget. They also have better health and enjoy higher quality of life compared to the people with negative opinion on ageing.
