ID - Intradermal route of administration is used where the medication is injected through the dermis. The drug is administered just below the skin or epidermis and a bleb is formed. Tuberculin skin test (TST) is performed in this route by administering purified protein derivative (PPD).

IP - Intraperitoneal route of administration is where the medication is given through the peritoneal cavity by injecting the drug into the transparent membrane of the abdominal cavity where the stomach and intestines are enclosed.

IA - Intra-articular route of administration is where the medication is given into the synovial fluid between bones where the joint cavities are present. This route is chosen in the treatment of patients suffering from arthritis.
