ANSWER.

* Calculation of safe dose and mg/dose.

       Maintainance dose = 3-5 mg/kg/day.

       Weight of the child = 10 pounds.

      Convert pounds to kg for calculation.

                   1 pound = 0.45 kg.

       So

           Weight of the child = 4.5 kg.

       Dose required for this child with 10 pound = 3 * 4.5 to 5* 4.5

                                                                  = 13.5mg to 22.5mg per day.

          Ordered dose = 12 mg/day.

   So

          * Safe dose = 13 mg to 22.5 mg per day.

          * mg/dose = 12/2 (Administered 12 hrly in a day or twice a day).

                            = 6 mg/dose.

         * The ordered dose (12 mg) is safe for this patient.
