Purposive sampling
Sampling is a process or technique of obtaining a representative sample. Sample refers to a representative item from a population or a whole group, that shows the characteristics of the whole group. ( tasting a spoon of curry to know wheather the whole curry in the vessel got cooked) In Research/ statistics samples refers to a subset of population selected for measurement, observation or questioning, to provide statistical information about the population.
Purposive sampling: It is a non probability sampling technique where the researcher selects the samples based on the objective of the research study. Samples are taken based on choice not on chance. Purposive sampling also known as judgemental or subjective sampling. For example ' A study to assess the Risk for PCOD( polycystic ovarian syndrome) among adolescent girls' here the researcher selects the adolescent girls as samples based on the objective of the study.
Advantages
1) A wide variety of types are available in purposive sampling such as heterogeneous sampling( different or extreme variety of characteristics among samples. ex: male and female), homogenous sampling( samples share same characteristics. ex: same gender), whole population sampling ( examining the entire population have same characteristics)
2. Easy to obtain the samples
Disadvantages
1. Chances of researcher bias
2. As it is nonprobabilty sampling, the representativeness of sample is difficult to prove. Because of subjective selection.
Probability Sampling techniques represent the most rigorous category of sampling because they employ a random selection technique, which ensures that each element has an equal probability of being selected. Which of the following are examples of probability sampling techniques (check all that apply)? Simple Random Sampling Convenience Sampling Stratified Random Sampling Snowball Sampling Purposive Sampling

Understanding the sampling process will contribute to your ability to critique research from a consumer's point of view. This week's Forum Discussion will help you to develop your sampling strategy based upon your PICOT. It should be approached in relation to the parameters or attributes of the study population, representative of the defined population, appropriateness of the sampling plan to the research design, appropriateness and justification of the sample size, and evidence that the rights of human participants (subjects) have...
The Student Government Association (SGA) is interest in surveying the current study body on their opinions of food service on campus. Because the university cannot disclose a list of students due to privacy laws, the SGA asks the university to send a survey link to all current students on behalf of the SGA. What is the qualitative method? to this article 2. What type of sampling is used? Is it appropriate for this method? Abstract This qualitative study used interviews to explore nurses’ perceptions of their role in protecting children and to identify any barriers to implementing the role. Participants in this study were recruited through purposive sampling. Ten nurses whose work brings them into regular contact with children and their families were interviewed; the sample included nurses from acute care and community-based...
For the Research Sampling section summarize What is sampling and why is sampling important. One sampling strategy used in quantitative research. One other sampling strategy that you learned. For the Credible Nursing Practice section, summarize How research can help to make nursing practice safe. Why research is critical for creating an evidence-based nursing practice. These answers need to be lenghty and not a short answer please i need at least a paragraph about research sampling and the second two questions.
Explain and provide two examples each of probability sampling and nonprobability sampling. When is probability sampling a better sampling strategy? When is nonprobability sampling?
The most common probabilistic sampling approach is: A. simple random sampling B. convenient sampling C. complex sampling D. error sampling
