Hypertensive patients in life threatening situations immidiate action to be taken to save the patients life.

Hypertensive emergency leads to impending end organ dysfunction.

In this situation BP should restore aggressively with in minutes to hours..

Management of patient in hypertensive emergency or crisis.

  • Continues monitoring of the patient with cardiac monitors
  • Mantain ABC....Airway... Breathing.... Circulation
  • IV infusion of Anti Hypertensive medicine.
  • Administration of Anti Hypertensive medicine as per physician 's prescription..
  • Anti hypertensive drugs are:
  1. Calcium channel blockers
  2. ACE inhibitors
  3. Angiotensin 2 receptor blockers
  4. Diuretics
  5. Beta blockers
  6. Sublingual Nitroglycerin administration.
  • Give comfortable position to the patient to restore the Blood Pressure dorsal position
  • Administration of oxygen 4 litres per hour with oxygen face mask.
  • Provide calm and quiet environment.

Once patient stable then monitor the BP every 30 minutes once.

Hospitalisation of the patient till recover from hypertensive emergency.

Do the diagnostic tests to evaluate the condition.

  1. ECG
  2. Echo
  3. Blood cholesterol test
  4. Urine analysis.

Regular administration of Anti Hypertensive medicine continuesly

Providing health education to the patient and family members. Regarding

  • Stress management
  • Do mild exercises regularly
  • Diet control...
  • Avoid to eat junk foods... Oilly foods..
  • Control/avoid intake of salt
  • Do eat fresh vegetables and related foods
  • Stop the habits of smoking and alcohol drinking
  • Regularl periodical health checks especially BP check ups.
