13. Name of the test: Amylase

Patient preparation: Sample can be taken at any time.

No specific preparation is required.

Preferred Specimen: Serum or plasma

Transport container: 4mL of heparin tube(green)

3mL of EDTA tube(lavender)

3.5mL of serum separator(gold)

Temperature: Room temperature. Can refrigerate for 14 days.

Clinical significance: Can be increased in pancreatitis. Help to detect the tumors of the pancreas, salivary, and ovarian cancer.

14. Name of the test: ANA w/reflex titer

Patient preparation: Can eat and drink before the test.

No specific preparation.   

Preferred specimen: serum

Transport Container: 3.5mL serum separator(gold) or plain container(red)

Temperature: Preferred to kept under the refrigerator

Clinical Significance: Presence of ANA antibodies used in the clinical findings of rheumatoid arthritis, Systemic Lupus erythematous, connective tissue disorders, scleroderma.

15. Name of the test: AST

Patient preparation: No specific preparation required.

Preferred specimen: plasma or serum

Transport container: Heparin tube(green), serum separator tube(gold)

Temperature: Refrigerator is highly preferred.

Clinical Significance: Elevated level shows alcoholism, cirrhosis of the liver, hepatitis. decreased in uremia, vitamin B6 deficiency.

16. Name of the test: Bilirubin Total

Patient preparation: Blood sample should be collected at fasting.

Do not eat or drink prior to the test.

Can have water as usual.

Preferred Specimen: Plasma or serum

Transport Container: Heparin tube(green), serum separator tube(gold)

Temperature: Refrigerated

Clinical significance: Abnormal level indicates jaundice, hepatitis, liver disease, and other metabolic disorders.
