Answer #1

H.Pylori Urea Breath Test:

Patient Prep:Inform to the provider if there are any medication allergies, lung and heart problems, if the patient is pregnant.

Stop medications such as antibiotics before 4 weeks prior to the test

Stop taking proton pump inhibitors at least before 2 weeks prior to the test

Patient should not take anything by mouth eg food or water 4 hours prior to the procedure.

If any medications were stopped, prior information should be provided to the physician

If any medications approved on the day of procedure to taken by the physician, use little sip of water to take it.

Preferred Specimen:Breath samples

Clinical Significance: Provider will administer urea capsule which contains carbon to swallow. This test is based on how the presence of H.Pylori in stomach has the ability to break down the urea swallowed and it gets absorbed by the gastric cavity and eliminates via breaths.

If H.Pylori is absent, breath test will be negative.
