1 Mr. Edwards is a 20-year-old male patient who is admitted for treatment of recurring pyelonephritis (kidney infection) and surgical treatment of a urinary stricture, which has decreased the urinary stream Mr. Edwards has paraplegia, he is paralyzed from the waist down secondary to an automobile accident when he was 16. He came by ambulance to the hospital, leaving his wheelchair and wheelchair pressure-relieving cushion at home. According to the nursing history, the patient is a nonsmoker and he does not drink alcohol or take any illegal drugs

The nursing interventions and care needed for this paraplegic patient with diagnosis of recurring pyelonephritis and urinary stricture are

• Assessing the patient from head to toe ,especially for bedsore
• Collecting past mefical and surgical history
• Knowing about any allergies (food and drug)
• The patient infection has to be treated first, before being taken for surgery as it can increase the chance of infection post operatively
• General preparation of the patient (consent, skin preparation, required laboratory test as per order ,NBM prior to surgery,administration of medication )
• Meticulous care needed post operatively to enhance urinary function, preventing infection
• Early mobilisation,range of motion exercise, physical therapy to the patient use of  wheelchair to enhance good musculoskeletal functions thus preventing rigidity.
