Erythrocyte sedimentation rate is useful for diagnosing and monitoring disease which causes pain and swelling due to inflammation. Lab specialist or health care provider measures the RBC rate settles toward the bottom of the tube after 1 hour. If you have inflammation it clumps together. If you forget to read the ESR result the test should be repeated again alone with a separate sample. after 1 hour if will the false result. The ESR test results may vary as per persons age and medical condition. The normal reference range will be 1-13mm/hr for males and 1-20mm/hr for females.
