A technologist in the medical field is responsible for all the necessary works involving the technical issues which includes the patient directly or indirectly.
The role of a technologist with regards to lines, tubes, oxygen and monitoring of the vital signs are according to his or her requirement and condition and need for it. The functions are:
- he has to put the patient in the venipuncture involving the pipes or tubes such as cannula, IV set, etc as soon as the patient has been admitted
- he should keep the patient with the urine catheter and bag if the patient is unable to pass the urine by themselves
- if a patient is considered to be having decreased oxygen saturation or dyspnea then he should identify it and supply the patient with oxygen pipes connected to the oxygen supplying devices
- he should monitor the patient according to his condition and status of the vital signs should be taken inorder to identify any fall of the normal readings. Hence the identification of the vitals should be done every 3-4 hourly if not very serious.
All the above mentioned work should be done by a technologist with regards to various works involving pipes, tubes, lines, oxygen and vital signs.
