Question 16 5 pts Operative Report Procedure Description: Insertion of a permanent ventricular demand pacemaker Indications: Tachy-brady Syndrome Technique: After informed consent was obtained the patient was taken to cardiac catheterization lab. His left infraclavicular region was prepped and draped in usual fashion and anesthetized with lidocaine. A pace maker pocket was fashioned in the left infraclavicular subcutaneous tissue using a combination of sharp and blunt dissection. A single wire was inserted into the left subclavian vein using Seldinger technique, following which an active fixation Medtronics lead, model #5076, was affixed to the region of the intraventricular septum. This was sutured in place using silk suture and suture sleeve. Appropriate pacing parameters were obtained and were programmed to a KSR123 single-chamber,rate responsive pace maker. This was affixed to the fascia using single silk suture and the skin was closed in two layers and a sterile dressing was applied over the Insertion site.
