Write a paper on: Assume that you have been assigned as the project manager for a project. Explain how you would go about estimating project tasks and project duration. Describe how you would apply estimating, scheduling, work breakdown structures, project plans, safety, change control, project baselines and the concept of a critical path, which you would choose for your project, and rational why. Also explain who you would involve in the estimation process and when you would involve them. Keep in mind that estimates can vary depending on the quality of the resource that is assigned. Describe how you would factor in resource quality and how you will strive to improve inadequate resource quality. Sometimes one resource begins a task and then it is handed over to another resource to finish. This generally results in inefficiencies. Explain how you will handle this. Finally, describe how you would apply safety to your time estimates and how you will manage scope creep. The concepts of safety were covered in detail in Critical Chain, and to a lesser degree, in The Goal. I would also like you to include a detailed description and potential application of parametric estimating. You are free to determine the most appropriate way to present this so long as I can view it and it is of graduate quality (includes research with citations – citations can be from interviews you conduct). Project planning and scheduling are the cornerstones of managing any successful project. The planning aspect involves making proper guidelines and procedures that need to be followed in order to meet the goals of the project. While the scheduling part involves the actual execution of the steps of planning in order to achieve the goals of the project in a time-bound manner and within the stipulated budget.
As such, the entire project requires that it is broken down in segments like estimating, scheduling, change control, etc. and the resources be allocated to them in accordance with that. A distinct map needs to be drawn that defines the activities of the project along with the timeline given to each activity. Thereafter, the resources need to allocated accordingly and everyone involved in the project should be made aware of their responsibilities. Thirdly, dependencies, if any, should be identified and given due attention in order to enable a smooth functioning of the project.
