You have been asked to replace the project manager who was heading up your firm’s new compensation and benefits system. One of the reasons the project manager is being replaced is because the project schedule had the wrong resources assigned (e.g., resources who do not fully understand compensation and benefits). You have been asked to solve this problem quickly by either replacing the resources or getting the resources up-to-speed on compensation and benefits. Present your recommendation for solving this critical resource problem by reviewing the pros and cons of each option.

Answer #1

There are two options which are available to solve the problem. Both the alternative solutions are given below along with pros and cons of each -

1) Replacing the Resources -
Pros : Replacing with resources that are suitable for the process of compensation will not take much time to get trained and will start their work with immediate effect thus reducing the time cost. Another benefit will be related to engaging the resources which are now employed will be free and will be utilized at other places where they can be suited.
Cons : One of the important negative point of this option is that this would involve extra cost and time and efforts to replace other resources in place of those who are currently present. Another point is that replacement may bring decrease in morale of thhose who are currently employed reducing the productivity.

2) getting resources to speed up -
pros : resources will get multiple skills when they get trained to handle compensation hence increasing the inventory skills. ANother benefit is related to increase in employee morale and prdouctivity.
Cons : MAin drawback is related to involved cost (time, efforts, money) to train reousrces to speed up.

From the above analysis we may say that if the organization has enough time to train employees to make them speed up the process it is better to let resources up to speed on the system.
