The state of Utopia creates a ‘Stop-and-frisk‘ program wherein police officers of Utopia may stop and pat down people they consider suspicious without probable cause to stop. Statistics from the police chief of Utopia, credit the program for deterring crime and increasing arrests, but some criticize it as overzealous policing. Do you think the state-wide implementation of this program would be constitutional? Would you support such a program?

Answer #1

The stop and frisk program where police officers have the right to stop anyone they consider suspicious has its own advantages and disdvantages. The state wide implementation of the program can be supported if there are many crimes happening as excessive crime rate would affect the economy's growth and development. It would deter invester confidence harming the economy and also affect the welfare of the citizens.

The stop and frisk program undoubtedly would reduce crime in the economy as it would create fear in the minds of people wherein the fear of getting caught will stop them from making the crime. However it is not justified that those who are innocent should go through policing and are made worse off because of some crimes in the state. There is also a possibility that such a program would lead to racial policing where certain groups could be suspected and targetted automatically. Another disadvantage would be that there would be tension created in the surroundings which could lead to worsening of relations between police and the people.

I would not support the implementation of such a program as evidence does not validate that such a program was able to reduce crime rates in all the areas that it was implemented.
