Venipuncture below the IV

1.Before performing the venipuncture on the intravenous site ,the fluid should be stopped before puncturing.The IV should be turned off atleast for two or more minutes before the procedure

2.Always the tourniquet should applied distally to the IV .Applying at proximal site can lead to a greater pressure in the IV site,induration when the IV fluid is infused

3.The venipuncture site should be far away from the IV

4.The venipuncture can be performed in a non dominant hand when there is an IV

5.After venipuncture it is a must to monitor the site of puncture and the IV site for any changes or abnormalities
