1 ATP is formed for every 2 H+ ions that move through the pump assuming 100% efficiency.

The proton pumps such as ATP synthases use the hydrogen atoms and form ATP molecules from ADP.

The number of H+ can also be calculated using :

Number of H+ ions = number of electrons flowing x number of pumps
