The first television ad aired over 70 years ago and today, it is still a popular medium advertiser use to get their offering in front of large audiences. Think Super Bowl, Oscars and other big events that continue to draw big budget advertisers from Audi to Avocados, Budweiser, Netflix and PepsiCo to name a few. This year there is no shortage of the number of advertisers vying for a spot in the Super Bowl and the cost keeps going up. A 30 second-spot on CBS airing Super Bowl 53 will cost advertisers $5M million as opposed to $3M in 2017.

Advertisers shell out big bucks to advertise on TV because it is still an effective medium to not only influence nearly 90% of consumer decisions to purchase goods and services, but it also accomplishes advertiser’s three objectives: (1) ability to target consumers (2) reach larger audiences and (3) is still a trustworthy medium over online ads. (Rush, 2019). Apart from the creativity and advertiser’s message, trustworthiness hits home the most for me over online advertising. I tend to ignore online ads and feel at times, it infringes upon my privacy because it is cleverly targeted however, I do not feel that way when I am watching Family Feud and a Subway commercial is on. Moreover, the multisensory nature of TV advertising such as the tune or music and the actor’s expression provides added context when delivering the message which makes it more engaging than a pop-up ad while I’m on the internet.

Advertising is the main method through which the sellers make the information about their product available to the consumers. The advertisments help to enhance the consumer knowledge about the product and also persuade them to buy the products by enumerating its various advantages.

The most preferred mode of advertisement is the television. The large companies often take the help of various channels to advertise their products because the television is known to have the best reach among the people. The online ads are ignored by the viewers and some of are of the view that online ads are the bugs and they give the false and misleading imformation.

In todays world where the marketting strategies have developed so much , the sellers take the help of the great celebrities who advertise various ads of big companies such as BMW, One plus phones etc. The advantage of this is that the celebrities have the power to convince the consumer. The consumer tend to immitate their idols . Hence this serves the purpose of spending high costs on television advertisements and persuading the consumers to buy the product.
