  1. In your current research work you have noticed that the antibacterial activity with the kirby-bauer test showed potent results. MIC and MBC tests were performed and the results were as follows:

  • MBC = 50 ug/mL

Answer-

According to the given question-

kirby-bauer test - Is used to Measure Drug Susceptibility which means that how sensitive the bacteria is when the bacteria are culture on  solid growth media containing the antibiotics. In this method the pure culture of bacteria is grown on a agar plate overnight in presence of known amount of antibiotics. If this bacteria is sensitive to the antibiotics then there will be a clear zone of inhibition is observed which suggest that there is no bacterial growth was observed in that region.  

MIC- Is called minimum inhibitory concentration which means the minimum concentration of any drug or antibiotics required to inhibit the growth of bacteria. lower valve indicates lower amount of drug are is required for bacterial growth inhibition which describe the effectiveness of drug.

MBC- is called minimum bacteriocidal concentration which means that the minimum concentration of antimicrobial agent that are responsible for killing the bacteria.

Here the valve are

MIC = 12.5 ug/mL and MBC = 50 ug/mLwhich means that the MIC < MBC i.e.

so here the concentration of drug required for the killing the bacteria is greater than the inhibition of bacterial growth it is definite result because killing is required more concentration of a particular drug than just inhibiting the growth. MIC is showing the growth inhibition and not causing death.

in other word we can say that if we use the concentration of drug 12.5 ug/mL then drug work as  bacteriostatic but when we increase the concentration 4 times or 50 ug/mL then drug work as bactericidal or in other word we can say that the drug work as bacteriostatic at lower concentration and work as bactericidal at high concentrations
