For conducting hypothesis testing, following are the assumptions - dependent variable, not the independent variable is assesed using a scale measure. The participants are randomly selected and the population distribution should be more or less normal. When the hypothesis testing is done on the basis of assumptions, as those mentioned above, then parametric test is used. If there is no assumptions, then nonparametric test will be used. Both one-tailed or two-tailed test can be used, depending on the direction of the hypothesis. When the hypothesis, does not provide direction, then it is a two-tailed test.
