We want to test the claim that the mean GPA of night students is significantly different than 2.3 at the 0.2 significance level.

Therefore, the null and alternative hypotheses are,

H0 : μ = 2.3

H1 : μ ≠ 2.3

The test is two-tailed

Givem that, sample size = 65, sample mean = 2.28 and

standard deviation = 0.04

Test statistic is,

Z = 2.28 – 2.3 -= 0.04 -4.03 65

The test statistic is : -4.03

critical values at 0.2 significance level are, Z* = ± 1.28

Therefore, the positive critical value is : 1.28

Since, test statistic = -4.03 < -1.28, we reject H0.

Therefore, based on this we : Reject the null hypothesis.
