In class, we said that a 1000-500 hPa thickness of 5400m represents a 50% probability of rain versus snow. What mean column temperature does this represent in degrees Celsius? (Use a value of 9.8 for gravity)

Answer #1

from hydrostatic equation

Z2-Z1=RT/g*ln(p1/p2)

where,

R= gas constant=287J/Kg/K

T =Mean temperature

Z1,Z2 (m)= height of isobaric surfaces p1,p2

g= 9.81m/s^2

given in question

p1= 1000hPa, p2=500hPa , Z2-Z1= 5400m

SO,

5400m= 287J/Kg/K*T/9.81m/s^2* ln(1000hPa/500hPa)

T= 266.29 C

    10 Suppose that xres ppose thatx represents a random man's height. We want to know the probability that the man is between 72 etween 72 and 78 inches tall, usine probability notation, we represent this as P(72 SXS 78). Use the graph above to compute this probability P(72 sxs 78) = 0.135+ 0.0235 - 0,1585 11 Suppose again that represents a random man's height. Google the phrase “Do you like cilantro?” It is said that a person either loves or hates the taste of cilantro and there are very few people that don’t feel strongly about their like or dislike of the taste of cilantro. Scientists now think they have found a genetic reason for why people either love or hate cilantro. According to one study, it is estimated that 4 – 14 percent of the population hate the taste of cilantro and these...

    In this assignment you will be implementing a weather forecaster. It involves writing 3 different classes plus a driver program. It is recommended that you write one class at a time and then write a driver (tester) program to ensure that it works before putting everything together. Alternately, you can use the Interactions tab of JGRASP to test some of the early classes. This is discussed in the next few pages. The Season Class The first, shortest, and easiest class...
