Ceftolozane is also known as tazobactam, is an antibiotic used for treating gram negative bacterial infections. The antibiotic is usually used when the bacteria is resistant to other conventional antibiotics. This antibiotic has 7-aminothiadiazole, thus possessing enhanced activity against the gram negative bacteria. It also has alkoximino group for stability. Complicated urinary tract infections & intra-abdominal infections are being treated by the tazobactam. Tazobactam inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell wall. Keep in mind that the ceftolozane is not having a huge antibiotic coverage & also need to be used with metronidazole for treating abdominal infections.
